A late Saturday night trade sends LeBron another star, but in exchange for his co-star.
Anthony Davis and LeBron have been playing with each other for years, but after this blockbuster trade they duo is no more. The Lakers and the Mavericks have agreed to a deal to swap stars giving the Lakers one of the most dynamic young scorers in the game for a string defensive player.
The Mavericks gm said this when asked about the trade, “I believe that defense wins championships,” Mavs GM Nico Harrison told ESPN regarding his motivation to trade Luka Doncic for Anthony Davis. “I believe that getting an All-Defensive center and an All-NBA player with a defensive mindset gives us a better chance. We’re built to win now and in the future.”
It has also been reported that Dallas had concerns on Luka's conditioning as that has been his main issue in the NBA so far. He has two season left under contract after this season but also has negotiations about another supermax deal.
The Lakers also acquired Maxi Kleber and Markieff Morris, and the Mavericks also got a first round pick and Max Christie. The Utah Jazz were also involved in the deal.
The trade changes the future for both teams, as now the Lakers will still have a star when LeBron retires. Luka is 25 and AD is 32, so overall I give the Lakers and a on the deal and the Mavs a C. Dallas’ GM said he wanted defence which he will get with Davis more than Luka, but Doncic has many more years left if he can stay healthy.
