In the nation’s capital on Thursday afternoon, Dylan Cease made MLB history with a no hitter. It was the second in the history of the San Diego Padres, and clinched the series sweep of the Nationals.
Two years ago he was just one out away from a no hitter when Luis Arráez, now teammate, singled to right-center to break up the no-no bid.
“I had a little flashback right there: Make sure I get the slider a little bit lower," Cease said after the game. "Man off the bat right there, it looked kind of like a bloop hit. I saw it stay up. Just screaming and yelling. That was awesome.”
When Luis Arráez broke up that no hitter two years ago, it was on a 1-1 slider that Cease left over the middle of the plate.
3 walks was the difference between a no hitter and a perfect game. Cease struck out 9 in his 3rd career complete game in which he threw a career high 114 pitches.
Now the question is was this worse than last year against the Phillies and Michael Lorenzen?
I was going to write about Cease's no-no but I wanted to do the Randy trade and now I'm working on Hays to the Phillies and Paxton so I feel like it is a little too late but I might be able to get three posts in one day ngl.
