I was trying to find a good “this day in CFL history” but found nothing, but I can wish you a Happy Leap Day, and thank you for reading CFL Weekly.
There are a few good ones in sports though, in 1940, Red Wings’ Cecil “Tiny” Thompson became the NHL’s first goalie to play 40 or more games for 12 straight seasons. This amazing milestone came in a 3-1 loss at Toronto. Another one happened in 1956, the MLB’s Cleveland Indians franchise was sold for almost $4m: some good stuff, and lots more.
Another thing I think is cool is that NBA All-Star Tyrese Haliburton was born on February 29, 2000. He is a rare leap-day baby. He is 24 years old, but this is only his 6th birthday.
One more time I want to wish you a Happy Leap Year. But before you close the tab, I want to give a shout-out to
who writes a substack called sports square. It is a great place to learn about sports, but also get involved. The substack has a chat, and the chat really gets reader involved. There was even a fantasy baseball league for some subscribers (which I’m in!). I hope you can get a look at Smayan’s substack below.Want to join the leaderboard?
