Mathieu Betts Sign With The Lions (No Not Staying With BC, The NFL Lions)
The CFL's Most Outstanding Defensive Player is headed to the NFL, but staying with the Lions?
Yes, it is possible to “stay” with the Lions when changing from the CFL to the NFL as a player. Mathieu Betts is headed to Detroit to play with the NFL’s Lions. Detroit added a good player in the CFL’s best on defence last year with 18 sacks, the record for most sacks in a season by a national player.
Betts was drafted third overall in 2019 by the Edmonton Elks and spent two seasons* in Edmonton before signing with the Lions in 2022. He totalled 27 sacks and five forced fumbles in his four seasons over 55 games.
The Montreal native was the leader of the BC Lions defence that was second in sacks with 55. Then in the awards, he won Most Outstanding Defensive Player, outlasting linebacker Adarius Pickett.
* There was no 2020 season due to COVID-19, so two seasons was three years.
