Winnipeg holds first in the NHL for the 2nd time since they moved from Atlanta.
After a 6-2 win over the Arizona Coyotes the Winnipeg Jets hold the number 1 spot in the NHL with 56 points. This win is their 6th win in a row and 12th straight game where they got points, a franchise record. The original Winnipeg Jets had a streak of 13 games with points, but that is a different franchise. Then only six minutes later in the second period, Nikolaj Ehlers scored his 14th goal of the season on a one-timer to make it 2-0 Winnipeg. The two assists were by Dylan Sandberg and Nate Schmidt.
About 5 minutes later, Arizona scored to bring it back within one. Nick Schmaltz got his 12th goal of the season to make it 2-1. then, with 5 minutes left, Winnipeg’s Cole Perfetti scored on a tip-in that went off the other team during a delayed penalty.
Then, in the third period, the Scheifele show happened. 5:11 into the third, Mark Scheifele scored with a backhand shot on a 1-on-1 with the goalie. Ehlers assisted for his second point of the day. Later, Hellybuck turned it over behind the net for a Coyotes goal. Dylan Guenther had his first of the season and his 7th career goal. Pulling the goalie didn’t work for Arizona, as when Vilardi got the puck, he made a beautiful pass the Scheifele for his second goal of the day. With less than a minute less, Adam Lowry, the Jets captain put a close on this game with another goal, with the Coyotes goalie playing.
