Rourke Return Ruined By Rowdy Bombers Defence
Nathan Rourke's return was spoiled by the Blue Bombers tough defence, as BC falls to .500 at 5-5.
The defence from the Winnipeg Blue Bombers has been on point in the last 2 games against BC, only allowing 11 total points across the 8 quarters. Tyrell Ford and Deatrick Nichols both picked off BC's newly signed QB Nathan Rourke. Rourke was under pressure all game long. He only took two sacks, but was just 8/25 passing. That's 32%. He had no touchdowns to the 2 interceptions in his cfl return, and had 126 yards.
William Stanback had 100 yards on 15 carries, and provided BC with good 1st down yardage, but th3y failed to do much with that yardage, and ended up punting 7 times. David Mackie had a rushing touchdown that ended up being the only major of the game for the Lions.
For Winnipeg, Zach Collaros was great, passing for 288 yards on 23/31, with 1 touchdown and interception. Nic Demski had a huge game with 109 receiving yards and one touchdown. Kenny Lawler had 54 yards in his return from the 6 game IR after being injured in their Week 1 loss to Montréal.
Chris Strevler had a rushing touchdown on one of his 6 rushes for 16 yards, and Brady Oliveria had 78 yards, including a 23 yard run to set up a Sergio Castillo field goal. Sergio Castillo was 2/3 on field goals, and hitting the upright on the miss. Sean Whyte extended his made field goal streak with a 23 yarder.
BC falls to 5-5 after the loss, and will travel to Ottawa to play the Redblacks next week.
Winnipeg becomes 4-6 but has the tiebreaker over BC after the win, winning the season series 2 games to 1 over BC. Winnipeg will host Taylor Powell or Bo Levi Mitchell and the Hamilton Tiger-Cats.
The best part of this game was the end of Willie Jefferson's interview when he yelled “Happy Birthday Grandma”, it was just pure joy in his voice and I loved it.
