Sergio Castillo Re-Signed By Winnipeg

Winnipeg announced on Friday that they have agreed to a one-year contract with kicker Sergio Castillo.

Winnipeg re-established a strong leg in Castillo when signing him to a one-year deal. Castillo was 46/51 on field goal attempts last year which is an outstanding 90.2 percent.

In 2023, Castillo had a record-breaking season, making 46 out of 151 field goal attempts. His success rate of 90.2% set a new standard for the Blue Bombers. Castillo was perfect on all 31 attempts within the 40-yard line and made 15 out of 20 from 40 yards or more. His season-long was an astounding 53 yards.

In the Western Final, he went 3/5 on field goals but in the Grey Cup, he made his only attempt. In the 2021 Grey Cup, he went 5/5 to lead the Bombers to victory in the 108th Grey Cup.

In his career, he is 170/196 (86.7%) in 77 career CFL games. He was a CFL All-Star in 2019 with the BC Lions. He also has experience with the New York Jets, the Houston Roughnecks, and the San Antonio Commanders all in 2020.
