Thanksgiving Week Review
(Week 18) I’m done with these refs, costing Winnipeg the West division clinch, and very possibly the playoff bye.
Toronto Argonauts 14 - 11 Winnipeg Blue Bombers
With the game on the line on 3rd and 17, Zach Collaros ran as fast as he could and dived past the first down, but for some reason the ball was spotted a few inches short. Mike O’Shea challenged the call and it standed. Collaros was 23/30 passing with 249 yards, no touchdowns, and one interception on the last play of the game on the hail mary attempt. Brady Oliveria ran for 64 yards, and Zach ran for 44. Terry Wilson ran for a touchdown on the short yardage play. Kenny Lawler led the receiving corps with 108 yards. While you can’t place the loss on any one player because it is a team sport, Sergio Castillo was a large part because he missed 2 or his three field goal attempts, one of which going for a single. Chad Kelly went 16/23 with 203 yards and a touchdown. Ka’Deem Carey ran for 39 yards and Kelly ran for 33 yards. The Argos defence put on a show outsacking Winnipeg 7 to 0. Liram Hajruallahu made both of his field goals as well.
Edmonton Elks 23 - 18 Calgary Stampeders
After both teams were eliminated from playoff contention, this game wasn’t the most exciting for CFL fans. Tre Ford did get the start for Edmonton which always makes it a must watch game. Tre was 23/29 passing with 208 yards and a touchdown, but he did throw two interceptions. Justin Rankin ran for 140 yards on 10 carries, an average of 14 yards per carry. Eugene Lewis caught a touchdown and had 46 receiving yards. Matthew Shiltz is back to starting in the CFL, as he went 18/33 with 215 yards, a touchdown and an interception. Shiltz also ran for 64 yards. Tommy Stevens ran for a touchdown as the short yardage specialist. Jalen Philpot, brother of Tyson, had 28 yards and a touchdown.
BC Lions 8 - 39 Saskatchewan Roughriders
In a game with huge playoff implications, BC did not meet expectations, with Rourke struggling, BC needs to make a change. Rourke went 15/23 for 200 yards and 2 interceptions. Chase Brice came in after and went 9/14 with 92 yards. Thankfully for BC fans Vernon Adams Jr. will finally start. VA was on pace to win the MOP before he got hurt. The Lions then signed Rourke for who he once was, not who he is now. That is why he keeps starting over Adams Jr. William Stanback led their running game with just 35 yards. Justin Mclinnis did have a good game with 119 receiving yards, and Sean Whyte had no field goal attempts. Trevor Harris went 25/30 with 271 yards and 2 touchdowns. AJ Ouellette had 84 yards on the ground. Samuel Emilis had 94 receiving yards in the air. Bret Lauther impressed making 6/6 field goals and all 3 extra points.
Ottawa Redblacks 12 - 19 Montreal Alouettes
Montreal started Davis Alexander to give Cody Fajardo some rest, and Alexander didn’t play awful. He was 14/24 with 208 yards and 1 interception. He also ran for 45 yards and a touchdown. Austin Mack had a huge outbreak going for 92 receiving yards. Jose Carlos Maltos was the savior once again though with 4 made field goals on 4 attempts to save the day. For Ottawa, Jeremiah Masoli got the start and played okay with 216 yards on 19/34 with an interception. Dustin Crum came in late and went 2/2 for 7 yards. Khalan Laborn ran for 55 yards to lead the rush, and Kalil Pimpleton had the most receiving yards by 34 with 74 yards. Lewis Ward went 4/5 on field goals, but didn’t lose the game on the miss.
Player Of The Week: Trevor Harris
Game Of The Week: BC Lions @ Saskatchewan Roughriders
None of this week's game were very exciting, but Riders fans had lots to cheer about after this game.
