The Bombers Are Back Where They Belong After Reaching 5th Straight Grey Cup
The Winnipeg Blue Bombers defeated the Saskatchewan Roughriders 38-22 on Saturday in a dominant win, clinching the Grey Cup for the fifth straight season.
Well that was quite the day in Winnipeg. The Jets are flying high with the best start in NHL history with a 14-1 record, and the Blue Bombers won the West Final to reach the Grey Cup, again.
Zach Collaros saved his best game of the season for the right time. He threw for 301 yards and 4 touchdowns on 19/26 passing. Kenny Lawler had the game of a lifetime with 3 receiving touchdowns and 177 yards on 4 catches. Over 100 of those yards were in the first half. Nic Demski had the most receptions with 8. He had 49 yards and a touchdown. Brady Oliveria had 119 yards and a touchdown, and Terry Wilson had 51 yards, with 48 of them coming on a long run on a short yardage play that set up the Bombers 3rd touchdown. Winnipeg had a total of 194 rushing yards against the Riders, who had the best defence against the run.
The offensive line dominated, allowing no sacks. They also opened up many holes for Brady Oliveria and Terry Wilson to run. Defensive Back Evan Holm was on another level this week with 4 total tackles and 4 pass breakups. Redha Kramdi had 9 defensive tackles and a sack to help out. Celestin Haba also sacked Trevor Harris in the contest.
For Saskatchewan, Trevor Harris was 25/44 passing with 283 yards and 1 touchdown. AJ Ouellete had 51 yards and a touchdown. Kian Schaffer Baker was the only Rider on his A-Game with 162 receiving yards. Samuel Emilus, who Evan Holm was defending for most of the game, had 11 targets, but only 4 catches for 58 yards and a touchdown. CCJ Avery had 10 tackles to lead the defence, Rolan Milligan Jr. had 3 tackles on defence, 2 on special teams, and forced a fumble that was recovered by the Bombers.
The Winnipeg Blue Bombers will look to beat Toronto in the Grey Cup for the first time ever. Their first Grey Cup matchup took place in 1937 where Toronto won 4-3. Toronto is 8-0 in the GC vs Winnipeg. Winnipeg will hope to change that on Sunday the 17th at 6:30 PM EST.
I'll be cheering for the Bombers on this one! My predictions stink so we'll see if it gets turned around here.
