Week 16 Recap
Winnipeg takes a commanding lead in the west as Montreal clinches a home playoff date.
As the playoffs approach, winning each game becomes more and more important, and after this week, we know who is for real to have a chance at the Grey Cup, and who isn’t.
Hamilton Tiger-Cats 33 - 31 Toronto Argonauts
Bo Levi Mitchell added to his MOP case with his hug, 362-yard performance on Friday. Bo was 31/40 passing and had one touchdown, and finally was without an interception. James Butler ran for 58 yards. Marc Liegghio was 6/6 on field goals and proved to be the difference in this game. Chad Kelly had a solid game with 255 yards, 1 touchdown, and one interception on 17/26 passing. He ran for 2 touchdowns to add to the one passing. Lirim Hajrullahu was 3/4 on field goals, and Toronto would’ve won if he made the 4th one.
Saskatchewan Roughriders 37 - 29 Calgary Stampeders
Trevor Harris was extremely accurate with only 2 incompletions on 18 attempts, and Ryquell Armstead took 25 carries for 207 yards. Harris threw for 248 yards and one touchdown and also ran for a touchdown. Shea Patterson also ran for 2 more touchdowns. Brett Lauther also went 3/3 on field goals with a long of 40 yards. For the Stamps, Jake Maier went 25/31 with 197 passing yards, 2 touchdowns, and an interception. Dedrick Mills and Tommy Stevens (QB) both ran for touchdowns. Stevens was a 69-yard touchdown run on 2nd and 1 when there was a gap made by the o-line. Both teams played a good game, but the Riders came out on top this time.
Montreal Alouettes 24 - 12 Ottawa Redblacks
The Ottawa Redblacks started the season as one of the best teams in the league, and are slowly cooling off, but they were ice-cold last Saturday. Dru Brown got the start and went 8/16 with 69 passing yards and 2 interceptions. Jeremiah Masoli then took over and threw for 218 yards on 17 completed passes for a touchdown. Masoli has been announced as the Redblacks starter for week 17. Justin Hardy caught the TD pass as a part of his 117-yard day. Cody Fajardo had an okay day with 226 passing yards on 16/27 passing for no touchdowns or interceptions. Fajardo did run for a touchdown, but overall the offence was quiet. Walter Fletcher was the leading rusher with 36 yards. Jose Carlos Maltos carried the Als to a win making 3 chip shot field goals. With his long being just 30 yards, but was perfect on field goals on the day.
Winnipeg Blue Bombers 27 - 14 Edmonton Elks
It’s safe to say this was not a game for quarterbacks to remember as none of them threw for 200 yards. Tre Ford was the starter for the Elks, and he struggled against his twin's defence, throwing for 131 yards, 1 touchdown, and 2 interceptions. McLeod Bethel-Thompson came in for the second half and threw for 48 yards on 5/10 passing. McLeod will start for the Elks next week in Winnipeg. Juston Rankin ran for 157 yards for the Elks but did not score any majors. Zach Collaros went 19/27 passing with a touchdown and an interception for 191 yards. Brady Oliveria ran for 127 yards and touchdowns number 1 and 2 on the season. Sergio Castillo struggled, going 2/4, but connection from 49 yards.
Player Of The Week: Bo Levi Mitchell
Game Of The Week: Winnipeg Blue Bombers @ Edmonton Elks
Yes, I know that the Hamilton-Toronto game was better, but this game had more playoff implications and was the battle of the brothers.
