I know this was in November
On November 16th, at the CFL awards, Brady Oliveria was named the Most Outstanding Canadian in Niagara Falls, Ontario.
Oliveira had an outstanding season, surpassing his previous career-high of 1,001 rushing yards with a total of 1,534. In doing so, he became the second Canadian player to reach the impressive milestone of 1,500 yards, while also accumulating 2,000 yards from scrimmage. Additionally, Oliveira led the league with seven games where he rushed for over 100 yards, and he achieved personal bests in receptions (38) and receiving yards (482).
Oliveira spoke about his family’s role on his journey to getting here. “The support from them every single day,” said Brady Oliveria “my mom being a massive part of raising me and my two other siblings. My mom did a lot for us as kids and she raised us into some pretty good human beings.”
The running back played a pivotal role in helping his team secure a first-place spot in the West Division. He also played a significant part in their win over the BC Lions in the Western Final. During the game, he rushed 21 times for 109 yards and scored one major. Additionally, he made three catches for 15 yards as a receiver.
“I feel like this entire season has been a dream for me,” added Oliveira. “I have to keep blinking and see if this is real life for me. I haven’t woken up yet from this dream. It’s been incredible. I’m truly blessed. And I appreciate all my teammates, my coaches, being able to get to work with those guys every single day. It makes it a lot more enjoyable and a lot more fun to get to go to work with a group of men like that.”
Brady Oliveria and wide receiver Nic Demski became the first duo of Canadians to get over 1,000 rushing yards and 1,000 receiving combined for the same team.
Marc-Antoine Dequoy was the runner-up for this award. The Alouettes defensive back tallied a career-high 80 defensive plays, including ten takeaways with five interceptions, two fumble recoveries and three forced fumbles. He added six pass knockdowns and led the CFL with two interceptions returned for touchdowns, including a league-best 108-yard effort in Week 17, and helping the Als reach the Grey Cup with a game-changing pick-six in the Eastern Final win over the Toronto Argonauts.
Dequoy’s Alouettes beat Oliveria’s Blue Bombers in the Grey Cup that Sunday.
