Phillies Release City Connect Jerseys
The Philadelphia Phillies are the first of 9 to release theirs this season.
The Philadelphia Phillies are the first of 9 teams to release their City Connect jerseys in 2024. Called “Unapologetically Philly” the Phillies are set to wear these jerseys for the first time on April 12th against the Pirates.
These jerseys are blue and yellow to represent the colours of the city's flag. The sleeve features a patch that says “City of brotherly” with “love” in the centre of the circle. The “O” in love is the Liberty Bell. The words on the jersey have a cracked pattern to try to replicate the crack in the Liberty Bell. Inside the collar is the Phillidelphia skyline with the word “Phillidelphia” under it. Finally, my favourite part is the hat. The colour of the hat is midnight blue. On the hat is the Liberty Bell with a midnight blue skyline. The rest of the bell is sky blue to represent the blue sky in Philly. On the sides of the bell are two yellow stars, one on each side.
The Phillies are going to wear these on Friday home games, similar to them wearing the jerseys powder blue jerseys every home Thursday game. The Phils have plans for what they are calling “Lights Up” Friday nights in Phillidaphia. They are going to have City Connect banners hanging from the first and third base façade. The colours inside the Bank will be different, Phanavision will be different, and even the on-deck circles will be different. Your favorite mascot the Phillie Phanatic will have city gear.

“You know how Penn State has the whiteout?” Harper said while he spoke about the jerseys, “I was thinking about that and how other teams do it. I was like, man, it’d be cool to make it midnight where the whole stadium is in that colour. I think there’s really cool things that we can do with it, being able to transform the ballpark into something that’s way different than the red. I really like the fact that it’s way different. Obviously, people are going to be a little taken aback without any red or blue or whatever, but I do enjoy that it’s completely different than anything we’ve ever done.”
Overall, I think Nike did an amazing job designing these jerseys. They’re fresh, modern, and just awesome. It may be a surprise that red is not the main colour, but don’t worry, if you don’t like them just don’t buy them. If I had to rate it out of 5 stars, I’d give it a 5 out of 5 because nothing is missing from the jersey. The hat is sweet, the socks with the skyline in the midnight blue are sweet, and the font of the word Philly, and all the players' names just go together perfectly. All of the easter eggs or hidden things from the Philly skyline with the name to the cracks in the numbers show just how deep the history of this city is.
